AMCAS Letter Service (MD Only)

Instructions - AMCAS Letter Service

1) Please use this link to review the complete list of schools that are participating AND those that are not. If you have applied to a school that is NOT a participant in the AMCAS letter service, please create an excel spreadsheet named "lastname_firstinitial" (e.g., smith_e) and list all of the nonparticipating schools to which you have applied. Send the spreadsheet to me WHEN you send me your submitted application (see Step 3 below).

2) As instructed previously, please list Dr. Begley (and her contact information) as the individual who will be submitting a Committee packet. Do NOT list separately any evaluator whose LOR is part of your MedAppTrak record. Doing so will delay your application being processed.

3) In your AMCAS application, for each medical school you select, you will be prompted to designate the committee packet. Make sure you do that.

4) Send a pdf of your submitted application to me (j.woolfson@neu.edu) together with the completed Excel spreadsheet described above. If all of the schools to which you applied are participants of the AMCAS Letter Service, please say so in the body of the e-mail so that I know why there is no excel spreadsheet attached. Make sure that you cc Dr. Begley (g.begley@neu.edu). Please note you do not need to send us the AMCAS Letter of Recommendation Request.

5) After you send your completed application and the excel spreadsheet to me, Dr. Begley will generate your Committee Letter (assuming that you have met with her to make this request).

6) After Dr. Begley generates the committee packet, I will upload it to Virtual Evals [VE] (a password-protected website that works with AMCAS to assure that schools to which you apply receive letters of recommendation written on your behalf).

7) Next, you will receive an e-mail from VE confirming that your letters have been uploaded. In this e-mail, you will also receive a link to VE that will list the individual schools (which you have designated) to receive letters DIRECTLY from VE. [Medical schools that receive letters directly from AMCAS (via the VE website) will not be listed individually. AMCAS/AAMC will be listed as the entity that receives the letters.]

8) Finally, when AMCAS uploads the committee packet to your application, you will receive an e-mail confirmation from AMCAS that this has been done. At that time, it is important that log on to your application and review the list of schools to which you have applied to verify that each school has the appropriate symbol that indicates that AMCAS has associated a Committee packet with that school.

9) If you have any questions that specifically pertain to AMCAS, please refer to the AMCAS FAQs . If your questions are not answered via that link, please contact AMCAS.

10) If you have questions about the information in this e-mail, please contact Judy Woolfson (j.woolfson@neu.edu).
