Congratulations! The request by your medical schools to come for the interview means that your application has been selected and you now have the opportunity personally to present your credentials, stand out to the decision makers, and differentiate yourself. Because the interview process is so important, it can also create high anxiety. You have been preparing for the medical school interview by the work you have done throughout college.
Now it is your time to focus all your attention on pulling together these resources in order to profile yourself effectively. Make sure you understand what each school offers and what specifically they look for in their medical students; then match your unique skills and attributes to these characteristics.
There are many resources to assist you in preparation. Check with Career Services. Contact the Pre-Medical Advisory Committee. Talk to NU graduates who are currently in medical school. One good resource is The Student Doctor Network which contains interview experiences at most US medical schools.
The interview is "mission critical"; treat it accordingly. And like all important milestones, don't neglect the advice of the ages to "know yourself" and be "true to yourself". You have no control over the questions you will be asked or the format in which you will be questioned. But your confidence is grounded in remembering that one thing you always control is your attitude. Knowing that you have been preparing for this interview throughout your university career, and that you have focused goals for your career, enter the interview process with excitement founded in self-knowledge, institutional knowledge, as well as personal integrity and passion.
